Girls` House in Rovaniemi

Activity and Free Time Center

The activities at the centre are aimed at girls, women and others aged 12–29, who are thinking about their femininity and girlhood, with a focus on gender diversity. The centre and all activities are free of bullying and discrimination. You are welcome just as you are ♥

The centre offers recreational activities to girls as a form of gender-, culture- and age-sensitive social youth work. Girls’ Houses are maintained by local settlement associations. In Rovaniemi, the centre’s activities are maintained by Rovalan Nuoret ry.

OUR ACTIVITIES

Activities at the Girls’ House include evening activities, events and various workshops and gatherings for small groups. The activities encourage working together, enjoyment, and experiences of success, recognising and strengthening one’s own skills, learning new things and sharing knowledge.

Events and workshops

We organise various open events and workshops according to topical themes and young people’s wishes.

One-to-one conversations

We offer one-on-one low-threshold conversational support with everyday matters and difficult moments in life. We also offer advice with questions related to sexuality.

Working together to learn new things

We offer a safe and supportive community to each person participating in our activities. By working and thinking about things together, we can learn new things, make friends, and learn to look at the world from a different perspective.

Volunteer Big Sisters

Our Volunteer Big Sisters act as safe adults at the Girls’ House®, while also setting an example of ways in which one can grow into womanhood on their own terms.

SEXUAL ADVICE SERVICE

The sexual advice service at Rovaniemi Girls’ House provides confidential and free low-threshold personal support for girls, women and young people between the ages of 12 and 29, taking into account gender diversity.

There, you can get answers to different questions and support with issues related to gender and sexuality. Topics can range from relationships to sex, growing up, the body, and sex; nothing is too small or too big to discuss.

SEXUAL VIOLENCE SERVICE

The sexual violence service at the Girls’ House offers confidential low-threshold support and counselling services free of charge. The sexual violence service is intended for girls and women between the ages of 12 and 29, as well as young people who are thinking about their gender, who have experienced sexual violence or experiences that they would like to talk about.

Sexual violence can appear in many different forms. It includes, for example, pressuring or coercing someone into having sex or a sexual activity, voyeurism, touching or harassment online, etc. It is not always easy to identify experiences of violence or harassment that violate your sexuality.  You don’t have to deal with your experience of sexual violence alone. Remember that nothing is too small or too big to talk about.

The sexual violence service offers personal support in the form of individual meetings and in professionally guided peer groups.  Parents, friends, and other adults that are aware of a young person’s need for help can also get in touch with the service.
